About ColorPop Kids

ColorPop Kids is a headshot studio for kids, teens and young adults in Pico-Robertson, Los Angeles. One kind of picture, done well, for ages 3 to 20. The name is the method: a real expression, in color chosen for that kid, in a frame a casting director reads in two seconds.
The idea
A kids headshot gets a glance, and a glance is enough when the picture is doing its job. Color is what makes it work. The right color brings out features a kid did not know they had, and it makes the whole frame feel alive. So every session is built around two choices made for that kid: the top that is most complimentary to their skin tone, and a backdrop that contrasts with it. The color is the tool, not the gimmick.
The other half is the expression. A kid who is playing gives you the real one, and a real expression photographs beautifully whether it comes with a smile or not. Calm and comfortable is a great shot too.
Put the two together, a real expression in a balanced, colorful frame, and the picture crosses a line: it is a calling card that also works as wall art. It is what stays on the desk after the pile has been sorted. That is the pop.
The method
Color first. Wardrobe and backdrop are chosen together at the start of the session, with you, against your kid's skin, eyes and hair, from all 55 Savage seamless paper colors. How that works
Close and talking. I shoot near enough to talk, and I talk the whole time, because the job is to get a kid playing.
One parent, one iPad. You sit to the side and watch the headshots come in as they are taken.
Continuous light, no flash. Calm for small kids and for nervous ones, with a tour of the room ahead of time if it helps.
Natural finish. A private gallery the next day, retouched so lightly nobody can tell.

Behind the camera
I'm Noam Nizzani. I have been a photographer and a designer for most of my working life: editorial and portrait photography on one side, art direction for print on the other, and for several years running video and photo production at a Los Angeles toy company, with kids of every age on set. I also teach photography and video to high school students. ColorPop Kids opened in 2024 as the place where all of that points at one thing: headshots for kids, on color.

The kid on the right
Rotex kids fashion campaign, 1988. That is me with the headphones. Every kid who walks into the studio gets the session I wish every adult had given me back then: short, playful, no forcing it, and over before anyone is tired.
